Before the test, you'll be requested to remove your shirt and bra and position your breast on a specialized surface, part of the mammography unit. During the procedure, pressure will be briefly applied to the breast to flatten the breast tissue, aiding in the identification of any abnormalities. The test typically concludes within half an hour or less. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the test. Results are typically received within a few days and will be forwarded to your attending physician
After the test: understanding the results
Most of the findings detected in the test are benign. Even if a suspicious finding is detected, early detection increases the likelihood of successful treatment.
If a lump is detected during the test, further clarification may involve performing an ultrasound of the breast.
